Passionate about Science?
Three minutes is enough time to make tea. But to explain scientific theories about the end of the universe? Or the functions of stem cells? In the FameLab science competition, young scientists have 180 seconds to explain their research topic to the audience and a top-class jury. Technically correct, entertaining and captivating. During their 3-minute talk participants may use minimal props - anything is allowed as long as they carry it on stage themselves.
Every year, impressive young scientists perform on stage at the FameLab regional heats throughout Germany. The two best participants from each of the preliminary heats then take part in the FameLab Germany finals in Bielefeld, where they compete for the chance to represent Germany at the international FameLab finals.

FameLab 2023
The German final of the FameLab Germany science competition, which took place in Bielefeld on 25 May 2023, was all-female this year. Eight young female researchers competed for a ticket to the world finals and provided more than 900 spectators in the Rudolf Oetker Hall with an exciting and entertaining evening. Aysel Ahadova (l.) from Heidelberg University Hospital and the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) in the field of tumour biology took first place and will represent Germany at the FameLab World Final in autumn. She not only convinced the jury with her performance on the topic of "DNA repair - small mistakes with big consequences", but also won the audience prize.
Second place went to Isa Kleine-Bekel (r.) from the University of Bielefeld with the subject of physics and the topic "Germany is looking for the 'suprastar'". As runner-up, she secured participation in a national conference for science communication.
The jury was top-class with Cordula Kleidt, political scientist and Head of Unit at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Alexandra Kaasch, Vice Rector for Science and Society at Bielefeld University, Dr. Jens Foell, neuropsychologist and science communicator, and Prof. Dr. Uwe Rössler from the Department of Economics at Bielefeld University. The evening was moderated by Marvin Meinold from "Die Stereotypen", who already chaired the regional preliminary round a few weeks ago in an inimitable way.
